ICC to announce details of new Darfur prosecution next week

The International Criminal Court said its prosecutor will present evidence to judges next Monday of crimes committed throughout the Sudanese region of Darfur over the past five years. The court has not said who will be named as a suspect. In a report to the Security Council in June, prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo alleged that Sudan's "whole state apparatus" is implicated in crimes against humanity in the western Darfur region. Judges can issue a summons or arrest warrant for any suspects named by prosecutors if they think the evidence merits such a move. Thursday's brief statement said the prosecutor will name the suspect or suspects at a news conference Monday.
