Pakistan and India pledged Wednesday to share information and help each other prevent terrorism in their countries.
The announcement of cooperation came after senior officials from the South Asian neighbors wrapped up the first meeting of a joint panel on counterterrorism established under their 3-year-old peace process.
The two sides "agreed that specific information will be exchanged" through the panel to help investigations into terrorism and prevent acts of violence in either country, according to a joint statement issued in Islamabad.
The panel will meet quarterly, though "any information which is required to be conveyed on priority basis would be immediately conveyed" through each side's top officials on the new body, the statement said.
