Indian prime minister undergoes prostate surgery

India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh underwent successful prostate surgery Saturday in a state-run hospital to remove a benign growth, his media adviser said. "The procedure was performed to treat a benign enlargement of the prostate gland," media adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement. Singh, 75, was resting after the operation and was likely to remain in the hospital until Monday, it said.
