Iranian state TV said on Monday that thousands of Iranians nationwide have demonstrated to celebrate the 29th anniversary of the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy by militant students.
In the capital, Teheran, crowds gathered outside the former US Embassy and chanted anti-US and anti-Israeli slogans while burning flags of the two countries.
The students, who believed the embassy was a center of plots against Iran, held 52 Americans hostage 444 days.
The takeover led to the US to cut diplomatic ties with Iran.
