A 21-year-old Israeli woman was killed Saturday in a bus accident in China. Dana Maor, whose family resides in Kiryat Ono, had been backpacking through the Far East with friends, and reached China after visiting Cambodia and Laos.The fatal accident occurred Saturday when Maor’s bus overturned in the remote Yunnan province of China. Apparently, monsoon flooding caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Maor was crushed under the bus, and efforts to rescue or resuscitate her were impeded by the heavy rainfall. She was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.A friend who was with her was lightly injured in the incident.Maor’s family and friends reacted with shock to the news. Many described her as a beautiful, bright individual who inspired and brought happiness to all who knew her.Maor completed her high school education at the prestigious Thelma Yalin High School for the Arts, where she emerged as a talented artist and painter. She went on to serve in Military Intelligence and was enrolled at the Hebrew University, where she was to begin studying come October.Representatives of the Israeli embassy in Beijing were looking into the incident and preparing to transfer Maor’s body to Israel.To see Maor's art, visit her Web sit at http://danamaor.carbonmade.com.
