Japan issued a tsunami warning for the country's Sea of Japan coast after a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 struck early Sunday.
The quake struck shortly before 10 a.m. (0100 GMT) off the north coast of Ishikawa prefecture, Japan's Meteorological Agency said.
Authorities issued a tsunami warning for nearby coast areas.
