Mehlis convinced Syria behind Hariri hit

Head of the UN team investigating the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri said he was convinced that Syria was behind the attack. Detlev Mehlis noted that in his opinion, a connection exists between the recent political assassinations in Lebanon and the attack against Hariri. Mehlis noted that he would continue his work until a replacement for him is found. Mehlis spoke with the London-based Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat. On Friday, the UN extended the probe by another six months.
