NY appeals court rejects claim by Arabic school principal

A federal appeals court says the former principal of an Arabic-themed public school cannot force New York City to give her another shot at getting her job back. The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals agreed Thursday that Debbie Almontaser (as acting in her official capacity when she made controversial statements to the press. Education officials denied they forced Almontaser to resign in August as interim principal of the Khalil Gibran International Academy. The trouble started when she discussed the term Intifada. Critics said Almontaser should have condemned the use of the word on T-shirts made by a youth organization.
