A suspected Islamic militant detonated his explosive-laden car at a Pakistani military checkpoint near the Afghan border Saturday, killing at least one soldier and wounding two others, officials said. The attack happened on the outskirts of Miran Shah, the main town in troubled North Waziristan tribal region, where an unspecified number of remnants of al-Qaida and Taliban militants are believed to be hiding, said Mohammed Khan, a junior government official.
