Vice-Premier Shimon Peres met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in New York on Wednesday, and presented to him the preconditions that need to be fulfilled before any meeting between Abbas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Peres told Abbas that before the meeting could be arranged, IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit must be released, and the Kassam rocket attacks against Israel must be stopped.
