A police official in Azerbaijan says two people have been killed in a grenade blast at a mosque in the Caspian Sea nation's capital.
Interior Ministry spokesman Ehsan Zahidov says seven or eight others were hospitalized after the explosion during evening prayers Sunday.
He said someone hurled the grenade during prayers at the Abu-Bekr mosque, one of the largest in Baku.
Azerbaijan is a mostly Muslim former Soviet republic whose secular government is wary of Islamic extremism.
