Pope meets Abbas, backs peace moves

The Vatican said Tuesday it appreciated new efforts to restart peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, after Pope Benedict XVI met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Abbas traveled to Rome as part of a seven-nation tour to persuade European countries to end economic sanctions on the Palestinian Authority government.
