Reports: Sweden wants Rwanda genocide suspect held

Reports on Saturday said that a Swedish prosecutor has asked that a Rwandan man be detained on suspicion of genocide and violations of international law committed in his homeland between 1990-94. Local newspapers said the 52-year-old man faces a custody hearing Monday at the Solna District Court. District Prosecutor Lars Hedvall could not be reached, but told news agency TT that suspicions for the detention order "are strong enough." He did not identify him by name. The man was arrested in July after Rwandan Embassy staff alerted authorities when he went to renew documents for his wife. He had been held on the same suspicions in Denmark but was released for lack of evidence.
