Russia calls UN Security Council session on Kosovo independence

The United Nations Security Council is planning to meet in emergency session at the request of Russia, which opposes Kosovo's independence declaration and bid for international recognition. The 15-member council remains deeply divided on the future of Kosovo. Russia backs its close ally Serbia and is calling for more negotiations, while Britain, France and other European Union members are supporting the Kosovo Albanians.
