Saakashvili: Georgia will not give up breakaway regions

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has said his country will not give up the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Saakashvili said Georgia would never give up a single square kilometer of the country's territory. He spoke at a news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday after they met in the capital, Tbilisi. Merkel said Russia must withdraw immediately. She said she expected a "very fast, very prompt" withdrawal of Russian troops from Georgia, calling it an "urgent matter." Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Sunday that Russia would begin to pull back troops on Monday but suggested they might remain in separatist South Ossetia.
