Spanish police detain 8 in connection with ETA-linked violence

Spanish police have arrested eight people suspected of supporting the armed Basque organization ETA and who are wanted in connection with a string of vandalism attacks, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday. The arrests were made overnight in the Basque towns of Ondarroa and Markina. Police seized several boxes containing material that could be used to make explosive devices, the ministry said in a statement. The eight, aged between 18 and 25, were believed responsible for most of the street violence in the Lea-Artibai area of the Basque region in recent months, the ministry said.
