Spanish police report $68 million cocaine bust

Spanish police say they have seized 1.4 tons of cocaine with a street value of €45 million (US$68 million) and arrested eight South American suspects. Police say it was the third major cocaine bust of the summer in Spain and the biggest carried out on land in all of 2008. A police statement released Tuesday says the operation was carried out in conjunction with the US Drug Enforcement Administration and agents arrested six Colombians and two Venezuelans, all in Barcelona. The statement does not say when the drugs were seized or the suspects were arrested. Spanish authorities seized 2.5 tons of cocaine in a high-seas raid in international waters of the Atlantic on July 26 and arrested 11 people.
