Sri Lanka: 7 Tamil rebels die in latest clashes

At least seven Tamil Tiger rebels were killed in fresh clashes between government troops and insurgents in Sri Lanka's volatile northeast, the military said Friday. Troops killed two rebels Friday after they attacked a navy foot patrol in northern Kayts island, said military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe. Army soldiers, meanwhile, confronted a group of rebels in eastern Batticaloa district Thursday, killing five insurgents, Samarasinghe said. No immediate comment from the rebels was available.
