Sri Lanka air strike hits 2 Tamil rebel naval bases

Government warplanes bombed two Tamil rebel naval bases in the volatile north of Sri Lanka, the military said. The attacks targeted bases belonging to the naval wing of the Tamil Tiger rebels, deep in the rebel stronghold of Mullaitivu, said air force spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara on Monday. He said the air strikes wrecked the bases, with one being engulfed in fire. It was the second wave of airstrikes against rebel positions in two days, according to the military. On Sunday, the air force said it bombed a rebel training camp and supply base, also in Mullaitivu.
