Sri Lanka says 14 rebels killed in sea clash

Sri Lanka's navy said Saturday that it destroyed four rebel boats, killing 14 Tamil Tiger guerrillas in a clash off the island's northern coast. Navy spokesman D.K.P. Dassanayake said the clash took place early Saturday off northern Jaffna peninsula when the navy observed a cluster of rebel boats and attacked them. The navy says five sailors were wounded the fighting. Rebel officials could not be contacted for comment.
