Suicide car bomber kills 9 Pakistani troops in Swat Valley

Pakistan's army said a suicide car bomber killed 9 troops in the country's volatile northwest on Monday. Army spokesman Maj. Murad Khan said the attacker detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at a checkpoint in Madian, a town in the Swat Valley. Three troops quickly succumbed to their injuries, and six more died despite the efforts of medics. Taliban and al-Qaida militants have responded to military offensives in Swat and the nearby region of Bajur on the border with Afghanistan by carrying out a series of suicide attacks. A truck bomber killed at least 53 people at a luxury hotel in the capital on Saturday.
