Teenager tried over neo-Nazi attack claim

An 18-year-old German woman went on trial Tuesday on charges that she falsely claimed a group of neo-Nazis carved a swastika into her skin - accusations her lawyer rejected. The woman, identified by authorities only as Rebecca K., refused to testify as her trial opened behind closed doors in the eastern town of Hainichen. She told authorities last November that four men attacked her after she tried to help a young girl they were harassing in nearby Mittweida. She claimed the men threw her to the ground and one carved a swastika into her hip. However, prosecutors later started investigating whether she carved the symbol herself, saying two independent medical assessments reached that conclusion. They charged her in May with filing a false claim of an attack.
