About 150 ultra-nationalist Turks pelted the French consulate in Istanbul with eggs on Sunday in the latest protest against the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, private NTV television said. Police blocked some of the protesters who attempted to storm the consulate building in downtown Istanbul, it said. The group dispersed peacefully after chanting slogans and issuing a statement to denounce the caricatures, which have caused outrage in the Muslim world.
