UK Foreign Office: Gaza unrest "deeply disturbing"

"Yesterday's unrest in Gaza City, which led to the tragic death of a member of staff of the Jordanian Representative Office and several other casualties, is deeply disturbing," said the British Foreign Office in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon. The statement came in response to the killing of the Jordanian ambassador to Gaza's driver in a clash between Fatah and Hamas forces. "The increasing number of armed clashes in the Palestinian Territories can only lead to further suffering of the Palestinian people," the statement continued. "We call for the immediate restoration of security by legally constituted forces for the benefit of all the Palestinian people."
