US Marine killed during weekend violence in Iraq

A US soldier and a Marine died over the weekend from wounds sustained from enemy action in Iraq's western Anbar province, the military said Monday. The Marine died Saturday and had been assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5. The soldier, a member of the US Army's 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, died Friday. Both names were being withheld pending family notification. The toll raised to 59 the number of Americans killed in Iraq in December. At least 2,947 members of the US military have died since the US-led invasion in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
