US condemns deadly terror attack on Indian train

The United States on Tuesday condemned the terrorist attack on the Samjhauta Express In India, declaring that there is "no political justification for violence against innocent people." Such incidents "only serve terrorists' efforts to spread fear, generate hate, and limit freedoms," State Department spokesman Tom Casey said. The Saturday attack on the train claimed 68 lives and occurred on a rail line that extends from New Delhi to Lahore. The line has been a visible symbol of improved Indo-Pakistani relations. "We will continue to support and work with both India and Pakistan in their efforts to halt extremists and counter terrorist threats," Casey said.
