US report: Israel generally respects human rights

A US State Department report on global human rights abuses said that Israel generally respected the rights of citizens, but noted problems in some areas, including "serious abuses" by some members of the security forces against Palestinian detainees. "Poor conditions and improper application of security internment procedures persisted in some detention and interrogation facilities," it said. The report also cited "institutional, legal, and societal discrimination against Israeli Arabs. The report listed the Darfur genocide as the world's most egregious violation of human rights.
