US wants talks with Poland on missile defense

The United States wants to open formal negotiations with Poland over the possibility of basing part of its missile defense system on Polish territory, a US Embassy official said Monday. "The US has communicated through diplomatic channels with Poland our interest to begin formal discussions about basing one component of missile defense on Polish territory," said Andrew Schilling, the US Embassy spokesman in Warsaw.
