Iran: US request for diplomatic office in Teheran would be 'deceitful'

Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani on Thursday called reports of US plans to set up diplomatic presence in Iran a "deceitful rumor." Iran's official news agency, IRNA, quoted Larijani as saying that if the Americans were "honest" in their intentions, they would have accepted a 2006 request by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for direct flights between the two countries. This contrasted IRNA's report Tuesday which said Teheran would consider any US request for an interest section in Iran. US officials floated the idea Monday but no formal requests were made.
