Iran lowers level of participation in IAEA meeting

The head of the Iranian nuclear department has canceled his participation in the annual general conference of the UN nuclear watchdog, Iran's official news agency reported Sunday. The IRNA report did not elaborate on the reason for Gholam Reza Aghazadeh's absence in the Monday meeting, saying that only his deputy will attend the event. The body is investigating Iran's nuclear program to determine whether it is peaceful or not. Iran is under three sets of sanctions by the UN Security Council over its refusal to suspend its nuclear activities, the purpose of which the West says is to obtain a nuclear weapon. Teheran denies the charge.
