Iran wants compensation for 'illegal UN sanctions resolutions'

Iran's foreign minister says his government plans to take legal action and seek compensation for what he says are illegal UN sanctions.
Manouchehr Mottaki says Iran will not implement the three sanctions resolutions because the Security Council exceeded its authority.
His comments come in a 20-page letter to UN officials obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.
The council imposed limited sanctions in December 2006, and has been ratcheting them up in hopes of getting Iran to suspend enrichment and start negotiations on its nuclear program.
The United States, the European Union and others suspect Iran's goal is to produce nuclear weapons. But Iran insists its program is purely peaceful and has defied the council by stepping up its enrichment activities.
