Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is lying about losing Tuesday’s race in an effort to win more votes, Labor leader Avi Gabbay told his party’s supporters at their campaign headquarters in Tel Aviv on Monday.
Gabbay said that the Blue and White number two candidate, Yair Lapid, was also lying. He said Lapid was not being honest when he says that the party does not need him to give up his agreement on a rotation in the Prime Minister’s Office with Blue and White’s co-leader Benny Gantz in order to win the election.
“The rotation is the obstacle to victory of our political camp,” Gabbay said. “We want our camp to replace Netanyahu. Three chiefs of staff conceded their ego. The time has come for Lapid to concede on his ego and quit the race.”
Gabbay also attacked Gantz for saying that Gabbay “should not stand in the way of a political upheaval.”
Speaking at a rally, to supporters, at the Tel Aviv Port, Gabbay said: “We will not let Labor be destroyed.”
Gabbay said that after the tapes of Gantz saying privately that he would sit in a government led by Netanyahu, voters cannot trust the Blue and White leader and that only voting for Labor will bring change.
Labor received an endorsement on Monday from former prime minister and Labor leader Ehud Barak, who said he will vote for the party.
