Bedouin cast ballots for Shas, and Gush Etzion gives votes to Meretz in head scratchers

As the final votes for the 21st Knesset are counted, most cities performed in predictable ways. Benny Gantz’s Blue and White soared in Tel Aviv, Likud came out top in Jerusalem, and United Torah Judaism was the big winner in Bnei Brak. But the vote-by-vote breakdown provided by the Central Election Committee provides a few head scratchers:• In Rahat, an entirely Beduin city, 136 people voted for Shas• In Alon Shvut, the religious-Zionist stronghold, 13 people voted for Meretz and 1 for Ra’am-Balad• In Bnei Brak, 515 people voted for Zehut, 112 for Meretz and 10 for Hadash• 14 people in Kiryat Arba voted for Meretz, and 5 for Labor• In Deir al-Assad in the Upper Galilee, 9% – 531 votes – went to Shas• 6 people in the Druze town of Majdal Shams voted for the New Right• The Alawite village of Ghajar in the Golan Heights voted 37% for Kulanu and 5% for Shas• In Taybe, 5 people voted for the Na Nach Kulanu Chaverim Party• The second-biggest party in the Beduin town Ar’arat an-Naqab was UTJ with 5%
