In a joint statement, Gazan factions claimed responsibility on Wednesday for at least 13 rockets fired into Israel on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
“We claim responsibility for attacking a number of Zionist military outposts around the Gaza border in response to an attack on a civilian vehicle,” the factions stated, referring to an IDF strike on a Hamas terrorist’s vehicle late Tuesday night.
Palestinian media and the IDF reported Tuesday night that an IAF strike in the Gazan Nuseirat refugee camp targeted an empty car belonging to a Hamas terrorist responsible for launching incendiary balloons into Israel.
The joint statement added that this declaration of responsibility should be taken to mean that the factions would not allow Israel to continue imposing its status quo on the Palestinians.
“We will remain faithful to our nation’s wounds and the blood of our martyrs, and to the continuation of our people’s nonviolent actions... behind which stands a united resistance which is prepared to respond immediately to any attack against our people,” the factions concluded.
At least 16 rocket sirens sounded in Gaza border communities late Tuesday evening, in Kibbutz Or Haner near Sderot, Yad Mordechai near Ashkelon and Kibbutz Zikim in the northern Negev Desert.
Sirens were also heard in Sderot, the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council and the Sdot Negev Regional Council.
Three the rockets fired were intercepted by the Iron Dome system, and at least three launching sites in Gaza were identified by the IDF.
Hamas has accused Israel of escalating the violence by attacking what it considers unarmed protesters and resistance members.
In a statement issued by Hamas Wednesday morning, its spokesman said the IDF attack on the vehicle “led to a rapid response by the Palestinian resistance.”
“Everything that results from the Zionist occupier’s stupid behavior proves that its policies are miscalculations doomed to fail. It will pay for the consequences,” the statement added.
