The Ministry of Health warned the public on Thursday to be wary of dairy products, specifically, labneh, a soft Middle eastern cream cheese similar to fromage blanc, produced by Rida Lalo, from the Druze village Daliyat al-Karmel.
A heard of goats were found to have brucellosis, which is a disease humans can receive through the consumption of milk from the infected animal.
Lalo sells dairy products in a delicatessen and his restaurant called, T-Bone, which is located in the village.
While the meat or milk product from the animal may smell or taste normal, it can still be infected.
Antibiotics can treat the disease, but the foods should still be avoided as in rare cases the disease could cause death. Symptoms include sweating as well as joint and muscle pain.
