A 31-year-old American tourist was was arrested Thursday after he attacked the guard of the northern Israel community of Almagor near Lake Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee), with a metal bar, police reported.
The tourist, who was traveling in Israel with his wife and son, arrived shortly after midnight to the community. Police were called after the man injured the guard and ran off to a nearby grove.
Police arrived at the scene and began searching for the man, who was found screaming "fire."
The man did not heed repeated calls to stop, continuing to threaten the police even following the use of a taser gun on the suspect.
However, once the suspect was arrested, the threats stopped.
The suspect's wife told police that Jesus had appeared to him and told him to destroy all of his credit cards and travel to northern Israel.
Following his arrest, the suspect was brought before a judge in Nazareth, who extended his arrest until Tuesday.
