200,000 sign petition calling for investigation into October 2000 riots

A petition signed by 200,000 Israeli-Arabs has called on the government to establish an independent investigative committee to look into the events of October 2000, during which police action against Israeli-Arab rioters killed 12. Speaking during a press conference in Nazareth, the initiators of the petition said that they would submit a report on the matter to the European Union this coming October.
