A 26-year-old resident of Ashdod was sodomized by an unknown assailant early Saturday morning as she returned to her apartment. At around 4:00 a.m. the victim and her friend were on their way to their respective houses when, according to the victim, the would-be assailant approached them and requested a cigarette. When the two women parted ways, the assailant - who apparently followed the woman towards her house - attacked her and pulled her, while threatening her, into a stairwell near the victim's home, where he sodomized her. A car that passed near the building alarmed the suspect, and he fled the scene. The occupants of the vehicle noticed the victim and offered her aid, calling police to the scene. Police are investigating the attack.
