Over the course of the 2005-6 school year, the Education Ministry's hotline fielded some 8000 calls, 400 of which reported incidences of violence or sexual assault among students, Israel Radio reported.
One-quarter of the callers requested advice or assistance with matriculation exams, and some 100 students who were evacuated from Gush Katif last August called because of emotional difficulties.
The hotline (1-800-222-003) is staffed by Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, and Amharic speakers.
