Abbas: Olmert meeting delay due to prisoner swap

October 18, 2006 00:02

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday that the meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will not proceed as planned, claiming that the delay was caused by a difference in opinion regarding the release of Palestinian prisoners. Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony of the winter Knesset session on Monday night, Olmert declared his intention to renew talks with the Palestinians, but repeated that any such renewal was contingent on the PA leadership renouncing terror, and recognizing Israel, as well as all previous agreements signed between Israel and the PA.
