Two sons of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas have sued Israel's state-run television channel, saying they were defamed by a news report, the station confirmed Thursday.
At issue is a December report about a new Palestinian cell phone company, Wataniyeh.
The report claimed that one of the sons owns shares in the company and suggested that Abbas pressured Israel to grant the company frequency channels, according to a statement by the Abbas brothers, Yasser and Tarez. The statement said the report harmed the reputation of Mahmoud Abbas and his sons.
The suit names the Israel Broadcast Authority's director general, Motti Shaklar, its news director, Uri Levi, and the reporter who aired the story, Ayala Hasson.
