The Advisory Committee on Senior Civil Service appointments was due to meet on Thursday to begin deliberations on the appointment of Ya'acov Genot as chief of police.
Genot, who is currently the Commissioner of the Prison Service, is the nominee of Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter.
The choice is controversial, however, because Genot was found guilty in 1994 of various disciplinary infractions while serving as head of the northern police district.
On Friday, Genot is due to appear before the committee.
