A state of emergency was declared at Ben Gurion Airport after the pilot of an El Al airplane heard a sound that led him to believe that one of its wheels exploded. The plane was directed to return to Israel instead of continuing to Moscow, as planned. Dozens of ambulances were called to the runway as the plane prepared to make an emergency landing. There were over 100 people on board the craft.
