Barak won't declare special 'emergency situation' in Ashkelon

Defense Minister Ehud Barak announced Sunday that he had decided not to proclaim a "special emergency situation" in Ashkelon as has been declared in Sderot. Barak was requested to consider the matter by MK Yoram Marciano (Labor). In the end, it was decided that the rocket attacks toward the city were not as heavy as in the case of Sderot and that the proclamation of an "emergency situation" would be liable to create bigger panic among residents than the situation warranted.
