Bill passes 1st reading: 80 MKs required for J'lem compromises

An initial reading on a Bill requiring the approval of 80 Knesset members for any future territorial compromises in Jerusalem was passed Wednesday in a vote of 54 MKs in favor and 24 MKs against. There are very few laws that require a majority of more than 60 MKs to pass in the 120-seat Knesset, and they normally involve large money issues or impeachment, removal of the government, or changes to a Basic Law.
