Bill would make it illegal to fire workers with cancer

MK Orit Noked (Labor) on Sunday proposed a new law, which would forbid employers from dismissing workers who are diagnosed with cancer, Israel Radio reported. Noked proposed the legislation after being approached by a cancer patient, who was being treated for his illness, and was recently dismissed from his workplace even though he was only absent for several hours because of this. "The law protects women during pregnancy and fertility treatment against arbitary dismissal, but cancer patients, who are trying to fight the disease, many of them succeeding in doing this, are not protected from wrongful dismissal," said Noked.
