Brigadier Gen. Erez Zuckerman has announced his resignation from the IDF, Israel Radio reported Friday. Zuckerman, who commanded the reserve armored division during the Second Lebanon War, announced his resignation to Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi on Thursday. "Only I am responsible for the results. When I realized my unit did not reach the necessary achievements, I decided to resign," said Zuckerman, who waited for publication of the Winograd report into the war's failures before making an official announcement. Zuckerman, 43, whose unit joined the war in the last week of fighting on the eastern front, was also head of the Shayetet (Navy Commandos) and Golani and considered an excellent and promising officer.
