Child pedestrian safety week starts

A worrisome increase in the number of children injured in road accidents on their way to and from school has induced Beterem (the National Center for Child Safety and Health) to organize a special week for safety awareness for young pedestrians. The events this week will include school programs. Research shows that children under the age of nine are unable to assess distance, identify sources of sounds and concentrate when crossing the street - thus they are at high risk and need to be accompanied by an adult. More information on activities can be obtained from the organization's Web site at www.beterem.org.
