Court rejects petition by family of Palestinian killed in Border Police custody

The Haifa District Court rejected a petition by the family of a Palestinian man shot and killed five years ago while in Border Police custody. The Border Police detained Bassama Ali Asamoudi, 34, from the Yamun village for security checks. During the interrogation, a fight broke out and a border policeman shot and killed the detainee. The family demanded compensation, claiming the killing was unlawful since Asamoudi was not a threat to anyone. Nevertheless, the court accepted the Border Police claim that Asamoudi pulled out a large knife to stab one of the interrogators. The court ordered the family to pay 15,000 shekels for court expenses.
