Prime Minister Ehud Olmert decided on Thursday to leave the overall responsibility for the home front with the Defense Ministry, rather than transferring it to the Internal Security Ministry.
Olmert's decision adopted the recommendation of the National Security Council.
The prime minister said that any decision would demand years' worth of preparation at a time when Israel had to be ready to respond immediately to threats, as well as implementing the lessons of the Lebanon war.
